Metaphor

Metaphor is an expression that compares two things that can relate on how they are alike in some reasons. Metaphors uses subject or visual so that the readers can imagine in a certain way or in different new ways like you want them to see. In other words, its an indirect message.

The effectiveness of metaphors can bring many benefits. Using metaphor can make it more lively and interesting. Therefore, it can create a great communication in terms of message and visual.

There are a few example of metaphorical design that i would like to show it here;

Mercedes-Benz always come out with some cool advertisement to market their brand and product. I am impress with most of the poster from the Mercedes-Benz. For this poster, the visual you can see here is the spanner with a shadow of a crocodile at the back. So what does it mean then? we could imagine many things but that's why we use headline which plays a major role to determined what message that are going to be delivered.

I believe the idea in this poster is to give awareness to their client. So the concept that they apply is using a spanner and with the background of a crocodile. Some of us may know the service provided by them are expensive. Therefore, some of the users tend to go for unofficial service center because there are much cheaper and affordable.

However, unofficial service could be risky because first, they are not an official service center. Second, we might not know what they will do to our car. Yes they might provide a cheap services but in return they might change your original gearbox with secondhand gearbox.

So the massage in this poster tells us to always service your car with the official center that they recommend. It is much more safer and trusted compare to the unofficial services. The spanner they use might be the masquerade of their bad intention which represent the crocodile in the poster. All and all, if you able to use fancy car. why bother about the service price right?

The second poster that I'm going to discuss here is made by Citizen Against Spouse Abuse (CASA). I believe the idea in this poster is to spread awareness/help. And their main target is the spouse that are going through abusive moment.

 So CASA came out with the concept of two shoes which is the first one is men type of shoes that contains dirt. Second one is the pastel version of women block heels. I believe that the shoes that contains dirt represent the dark heart abusive husband that eager to control the pastel block heels which represent the innocent spouse.

The message of the poster is to help the helpless spouse that has been abused and controlled by her husband throughout their marriage. So when the dirt shoes steps over the clean pastel block, it will automatically be covered in dirt too. That relates to the scenario of their marriage life when once the husband starts to put hands on their wife that's when their life gets gloomy. So to the women out there don't be afraid to reach out for help from your family or any organization that related.
